Kreuzschule Coesfeld: School pavilion for eight classes
One and a half years are planned for the renovation of the Kreuzschule in Coesfeld. As classrooms cannot be used during this time, the city of Coesfeld, which is responsible for the school, decided to install a school pavilion as an alternative location.
AMTRA won the tender for this project and ensured that the project ran quickly and smoothly from the initial planning to the handover of the finished system to the school.
The pavilion was designed as a two-storey building, each floor consisting of four classrooms connected to a central corridor. The rooms each consist of four spacious containers with a floor area of approx. 60 square meters. Supplemented by four containers as corridor elements, each floor thus offers approx. 240 square meters of teaching space plus approx. 50 square meters of corridor.
- 16 containers for the classrooms
- 4 hallway containers
- Radio networked smoke detectors
- External staircase including landings
- Whiteboards
- HDMI connections
Another class will be“delivered later“
During the planning phase, the client identified the need for an additional classroom. This was quickly and easily constructed by AMTRA as a small, separate facility next to the large two-storey building.
160-ton crane lifts containers to their location
The container system was set up in an inner courtyard of the school, which had no access for the delivery trucks. The containers were therefore lifted by a mobile truck-mounted crane over an extension to the school and set down in the courtyard approx. 40 meters behind it. Due to the large radius, the crane had to have a corresponding lifting capacity, so a model with a capacity of 160 tons was used.
“The crane was set up the evening before the installation, so that we could start the installation early the next morning,” explains Jörg Müller, Senior Site Manager at AMTRA. “The assembly went without a hitch, so we were able to set up the system in just two days, as planned.”
Safety is an important aspect
Each class has two doors – one at the front and one at the back – which open into the corridor and allow people to leave the rooms quickly. The corridor has exits at both ends, which can be opened at any time thanks to the panic lock.
AMTRA has equipped the facility with wide stairways at both ends. Thanks to bright outdoor lights with motion detectors, pupils can move around safely here even in the darker months of the year. Other safety features include a system of wireless smoke detectors and numerous fire extinguishers installed at various points in the corridor.
