Regino-Gymnasium Prüm: Modern container school for 10 classes
The Eifel district of Bitburg-Prüm was looking for an economical and comfortable accommodation option for the pupils for the comprehensive renovation of the Regino Grammar School. AMTRA won the public tender with its modern and economical school container solutions and erected a two-storey facility consisting of 38 containers for 10 classes on the school grounds.
The school classes consist of three or four containers with a length of 6.65 m, a width of 2.99 m and a height of 3.24 m. The room height is therefore 40 cm more than the 2.84 m of the standard containers. The additional forty centimeters allow the installation of an acoustic ceiling, which effectively absorbs sound and thus provides a more pleasant learning environment. Built-in blinds make it possible to regulate the amount of sunlight and, in conjunction with the high-quality thermal insulation, ensure a pleasant indoor climate in the facility.
Standard containers are used as corridor elements, which lead directly to the outside on the first floor and to the wide arcade on the second floor.
Safety has top priority
The containers were equipped in accordance with the school building guidelines, with a particular focus on safety and fire protection: For example, all containers have fire resistance class F30, and the entire facility is also equipped with a fire alarm system.
The wide pergola and the three stairways at the front and both ends of the facility allow classes to be evacuated quickly and safely in an emergency.
Installation site requires careful inspection
Before the container school was installed, the specified location had to be thoroughly examined by our site manager. The reason for this was an old well that existed on the site and which might not have been able to withstand the load from the crane.
The location of the well had to be carefully determined in advance and possible access routes and installation areas defined accordingly. Thanks to the comprehensive preliminary analysis and the many years of experience of our team, the containers could be installed quickly and safely.
AMTRA supplied the following components for the project:
- 32 classroom containers
- 6 Corridor containers
- Extra wide pergola
- Custom-made staircase
- Whiteboards in all classes
Energy optimization for longer service life
The delay to the construction work in the school building requires an extension to the service life of the room container system. To ensure energy- and resource-saving operation, the containers will be upgraded on site by AMTRA in accordance with the requirements of the latest Energy Saving Ordinance (EnEV 2016).
School officials are full of praise
Theo Hafner, building technician at Regino-Gymnasium, is completely satisfied with the service provided by AMTRA:
“That was a great job by AMTRA. The construction went quickly and reliably, and there were no complaints at the handover. Jörg Müller, the senior site manager, took particular care of our project in advance and always had an open ear for our concerns.
The follow-up work, such as the installation of the lightning protection, was also top-notch. As a result, school operations were virtually undisturbed and the pupils were able to move into their new classrooms on time.”
The system is fully accepted by both pupils and teachers. So far, it has run smoothly and there has been no vandalism. Minor faults are rectified by the AMTRA service team at short notice and regular communication with the school management and building services ensures close contact.
